Dubai: US President Donald Trump said on Friday he is \u201cnot happy\u201d with\u00a0the direction of nuclear talks with Iran, warning that while diplomacy remains ongoing, military force remains an option if Tehran refuses to abandon its nuclear ambitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not exactly happy with the way they\u2019re negotiating,\u201d Trump told reporters as he departed the White House. \u201cThey cannot have nuclear weapons.\u00a0We want no nuclear weapons by Iran, and they\u2019re not saying those golden words.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n He warned that \u201csometimes you have to\u201d use military force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The remarks came a day after US and Iranian officials concluded another round of indirect negotiations in Geneva without a breakthrough. Technical discussions are expected to continue in Vienna next week, mediated by Oman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe haven\u2019t made a final decision,\u201d Trump said when asked about military action. \u201cWe\u2019ll see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhen there\u2019s war, there\u2019s a risk of anything, both good and bad,\u201d he said when asked about the possibility of a wider regional conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Asked whether a US strike could ultimately bring down Iran\u2019s Islamic republic, Trump was circumspect. \u201cNobody knows. There might be and there might not be,\u201d he said of potential regime change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tensions remain elevated as US military assets continue to mass in the Middle East, including two aircraft carrier strike groups and additional airpower. Iran has warned it would retaliate against American forces and bases in the region if attacked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A confidential report from the UN nuclear watchdog, circulated to member states and seen by The Associated Press, said inspectors have not been granted access to key nuclear sites since they were heavily bombed during last year\u2019s 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran. As a result, the agency said it cannot verify Tehran\u2019s claim that uranium enrichment has ceased following US and Israeli strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to visit Israel early next week to discuss Iran and regional security. The US Embassy in Jerusalem has authorised the voluntary departure of non-essential staff and family members, with Ambassador Mike Huckabee urging personnel considering departure to leave immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Vice President JD Vance was also set to meet Oman\u2019s foreign minister in Washington as diplomatic efforts continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Iran insists its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes and has demanded sanctions relief in exchange for limiting \u2014 but not ending \u2014 enrichment activities. US intelligence has found no evidence Tehran has decided to build a nuclear weapon, though Washington and Israel remain skeptical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trump, who withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal during his first term, said he would \u201cwait to see what happens\u201d in upcoming talks.
